2004 WAS A GREAT YEAR

I SPENT A LOT OF TIME FLYING INSTEAD OF BUILDING

STARTING IN JAN

STALL CLEAN IS 67 MPH
STALL LANDING IS 47 MPH

PLANE IS ROCK STABLE 

IF YOU DROP THE NOSE PLANE WILL PICK UP 20 TO 30 MPH  RIGHT AWAY THIS GIVES US A LOT OF ROOM TO EXPAND  SPEED ABOVE THE 190 MPH INDICATED AIRSPEED WE ARE NOW GETTING

COUNTER BALANCES ARE WORKING
AT 190 THERE ARE NO AIRFRAME ENGINE VIBRATIONS

AS PER AC-90-89  WE WILL CONTINUE TO EXPAND TOP SPEED SLOWLY

THE IO-720 ENGINE IS JUST GREAT
IT BURNS LESS GAS PER HP THEN A 6 CYL ENGINE

WITH 26 HR ON THE BARRSIX WE ARE TIRED OF FLYING THE 25 MILE RADIUS AND CAN NOW FLY TO OTHER AIRPORTS

OUT FOR ANOTHER FLIGHT TEST

WITH A MANEUVERING SPEED OF 171 MPH  AND YELLOW RANGE OF 206 TO 248 MPH OUR HIGH SPEED RUNS AT 190 ARE BEING RUN ON SMOOTH DAYS ONLY
FEB AND MARCH WILL PRODUCE SOME GOOD DAYS FOR MORE TESTING  OF HIGH SPEEDS

ON JAN 16 I RECEIVED TEMPORARY AIRMAN CERTIFICATE " REPAIRMAN" FOR BARRSIX SERIAL # 001
I THINK THIS IS THE LAST OF THE FAA PAPERWORK

ON JAN 19 I GOT MY FLIGHT REVIEW IN A 150 CESSNA
ON JAN 20 MY TEST PILOT STARTED TO GIVE ME DUEL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE BARRSIX
TAKE OFF GAVE 2500 FPM
WITH CLIMB POWER 1500 FPM
WITH 23 AND 2300 POWER SETTING  FOR DOWN WIND WE WERE GOING TOO FAST FOR FLAPS
TOUCH AND GO SHOWED 47 MPH FOR LANDINGS
WITH  THE IO-720 ENGINE EVERYTHING HAPPENS SO FAST
WITH THE POWER TO WEIGHT RATIO THE PLANE REALLY MOVES

SINCE I HAVE NOT FLOWN A LOT SINCE 1995 IT WILL TAKE ME 5 OR 6 MORE HOURS OF DUEL TO GET UP TO SPEED  TO FLY THE BARRSIX SOLO
FLYING THE BARRSIX WITH 200 HP SETTINGS IS LIKE SITTING IN YOUR EASY CHAIR AT HOME
FLYING WITH 300 TO 400 HP SETTINGS EVERYTHING HAPPENS MUCH QUICKER
I WILL ENJOY GETTING USE TO THE POWER

PHASE 1 OF FLIGHT TEST WAS COMPLETED IN JAN 12 2004 OUR FIRST 25 HR WAS FLOWN WITH ONE PERSON IN PLANE AND WITH ONE HEADSET AND ONE HAND HELD COM

AFTER THAT I FLEW WITH TEST PILOT TO GET DUAL INSTRUCTION

INSTALL NEW BUS BAR    METAL SWITCHES   CIRCUIT BREAKERS AND REMOVED ALL OT THE OLD RADIO WIRING

I SERVICED AIRFRAME AND MODIFIED AIR INTAKE FOR THE THIRD TIME

6 PLACE INTERCOM INSTALLED

ONE SERVICEABLE TXP AND NAV/COM

GARMIN 295

HANDHELD COM WITH POWER AND ANTENNA

MOST OF FLIGHT ARE WITH 3 OR 4 PEOPLE

SO I ADDED  NEW HEAD SETS

I WILL FLY WITH THIS SET UP

MY FLYING THIS SUMMER AND FALL WILL BE VFR OR  LIGHT IFR FLYING ANYWAY,

 

UNTIL ENGINE IS BROKEN IN I AM RUNNING ENGINE RICH

I SOLOED AFTER 10 HR OF DUAL ON APRIL 24 2004

OUT FLYING AND SHOWING BARR 6 OFF

WHAT A THRILL TO FLY A SINGLE ENGINE 400 HP AIRPLANE

EXPANDING CROSS COUNTRY AND MY FLYING TI ME

HAVE BEEN IN RAIN,  35 K GUSTS AND  SHORT RUN WAYS

THIS IS THE BEST RIDING AIRPLANE IN GUST CONDITIONS
THAT I HAVE EVER BEEN IN

BEFORE OSHKOSH FLIGHT I WENT INTO A LOT OF SMALL AIRPORTS AROUND
PENNA.
THIS HELPED ME BUILD UP SOLO  FLYING TIME AND MAKE MORE CHARTS ON ENGINE TEMPS

FIRST LONG CROSS COUNTRY DAY VFR   FLIGHT TO OSHKOSH

ON ARRIVAL AT OSHKOSH THE FRONT CABIN  LOOKED LIKE THIS

REAR CABIN WAS PACKED WITH LIGHTER CAMPING ITEMS

BARR 6 AT OSHKOSH 2004

TO DESIGN, BUILD TOOLING, BUILD PARTS, ASSEMBLE, TEST FLIGHT AIRPLANE AND SYSTEMS AND FLY VFR  THE BARR 6 TO OSHKOSH WILL BE MY LAST GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENT.

WHEN PEOPLE FOUND OUT THAT THEY WERE LOOKING AT A

AND IT IS A KIT AIRCRAFT THEN THEY JUST LOOKED MORE AND MORE

IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN THEN WHAT I KNOW NOW
I WOULD HAVE BUILT INTERCOM, AUTOPILOT AND RADIO EQUIPMENT IN DURING THE BUILDING PROCESS

BUT I HAD TO KNOW FIRST THAT

THE ENGINE WOULD RUN

AND SECOND  THAT THE AIRPLANE WOULD FLY

I AM SO HAPPY WITH THE BARR 6 THAT WHEN I WAS A OSHKOSH I ONLY TOOK 1 ROLL OF PICTURES OF OTHER AIRPLANES
